UrbanPlan was held in Cantonese for the first time! This milestone workshop at Po Leung Kuk Celine Ho Yam Tong College marked our return to in-person workshops after a 5-month pandemic hiatus. We also welcomed our Chinese instructor Abbey Chow to the UrbanPlan family. Welcome Abbey!
ISF Academy hosted UrbanPlan for the fifth time on Nov 9.
93 Grade 10 students participated in the three-day series workshop. Special thanks to the volunteer members who supported and facilitated the workshop!
We held a volunteer training workshop on Oct 26 at DLA Piper who generously provided their office venue at Three Exchange Square with sweeping views of Hong Kong harbour. 19 participants in 4 teams experienced the training and we look forward to having some join us as facilitators at our next student workshop.
We would like to thank New World Development for inviting us for a corporate engagement workshop. 15 participants in 3 teams experienced a lighting version of the program and the training required to facilitate at student workshops.
After several months of Covid-necessitated delays, we are especially pleased to have ended this academic year with a workshop at Po Leung Kuk Lo Kit Sing (1983) College in Tsing Yi, and look forward to deepening our engagement at local schools in the coming academic year.
We concluded our UrbanPlan run at Marymount Secondary School with a workshop for 25 secondary 4 students on 29 June. We were assisted by 3 summer interns, who took on photography and logistics duties. Our interns had themselves experienced UrbanPlan as students 2 years ago, as 10th graders at ISF Academy, which gave them a unique insight into what the Marymount student teams were experiencing.
UrbanPlan was rolled out for the first time to a younger Secondary 1 cohort over 5 days in June at Marymount Secondary School. Program adjustments were made for this group as a slightly simplified version was needed to help 13-year-old students visualize the site context and existing buildings, and make better informed decisions during the building of their schemes.
We would like to thank Swire for inviting us to (stunning) Island East for a corporate engagement workshop on May 10. Fourteen participants in 3 teams experienced our lightning demonstration and we hope some will be interested in joining our facilitator pool.
Another milestone reached on Apr 24, as UrbanPlan HK held their first workshop at an all-boys school at St Joseph’s College. This is the sixth school that UrbanPlan has rolled out their workshop in collaboration with School and faculty support. In this instance, our own YLG leaders and members who are also St Joseph’s College alumni helped to connect UrbanPlan to the school.
ISF Academy hosted UrbanPlan for the fourth time, on November 16th and 18th. The two-day workshop series saw 80 Grade 10 students participate in 16 teams. We’d like to thank our intrepid volunteer facilitators for successfully shepherding such a large cohort.
We welcomed 20 new volunteers to the program at a Facilitator Training held on October 12. Our special thanks to venue partner Centricity for their support.
On June 19, we held a corporate engagement workshop for UrbanPlan sponsor Nan Fung. 12 participants experienced our demonstration. We look forward to introducing more colleagues to the program in the coming months.
Hosting UrbanPlan for the third time, a two-day series workshop was held at the ISF Academy in November 2019, with 60 students participating in the variant program where teachers co-delivered parts of the workshop day.

“I think that the urban planning process is a lot more complicated than I had originally thought. On top of the planning of an urban area, you need to consider the opinions and perspectives of your teammates, which sometimes conflicts with my own opinions. There are lots of perspectives that we need to take into consideration and sort out.”
“It was an excellent experience both the students and I enjoyed very much. It provided the students a very good experiential learning opportunity. The workshop was organised and led by the team professionally. It also enhanced some of the students’ interest in urban geography (some of the girls didn’t like this topic before). Thanks very much for coming!!”
“A great program, a great experience – keep it up!”
